Bryn Williams – Chief Executive Officer and Executive Chairman

Bryn is an experienced Director with commercial, strategic and leadership skills gained from working in the PLC and private equity environment. Having trained and qualified as a Chartered Accountant with KPMG, he moved into industry working at Board level at both divisional and operating company level.

Bryn has worked in a number of different PLC groups, including RTZ, Courtaulds and Caradon, in the building products and speciality packaging sectors. As executive chairman, Bryn is responsible in Kuecept for shaping the strategic direction, ensuring appropriate corporate governance and leading the Board in successfully developing the business.

Dr Ken Caldicott – Chief Scientific Officer

Ken began his pharmaceutical career with the Parke-Davis Research Division of Warner-Lambert where he managed the analytical chemistry department and later also took on responsibility for Quality Assurance. He later moved to Penn Pharmaceuticals where he set up a contract analytical laboratory which was also utilised to support formulation development. After growing these two groups he moved into a CSO role providing CMC and QP consultancy services to Penn’s clients.

In 2004 Ken left Penn to start his own consultancy and is now working with a number of international pharmaceutical companies. Ken is a Chartered Chemist, Fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry and also registered as a Qualified Person (QP).


Dr Mark Saunders – Development Director

Mark was awarded his first degree in Biological and Medicinal Chemistry from the University of Exeter and his PhD from the London School of Pharmacy, now part of University College London (UCL). Mark started his professional career consulting for the London based law firm SJ Berwin, providing independent laboratory services during a successful major patent litigation trial on Paxil® (Paroxetine Hydrochloride). After this, Mark joined a London based Contract Research Organisation (CRO), where he was responsible for growth in sales of over £2 million during a 7 year period and was involved in the commercial sell in of the organisation in 2007.  After this, Mark set up of Kuecept Ltd and is responsible for the growth and management of the company's client portoflio. 

Mark is also a member of the UK and US Controlled Release Societies, Intrnational Society of Aerosol Medicines and sits on the committee of the Association of Pharmaceutical Scientists Material Scoience Group. He has authoured over 20 peer reviewed papers, has contibuted 2 book chapters and is co-author of 'Essentials of Pharmaceutical Preformulation' published in 2013.


 

Dr Cristina Freire – Development Manager

Cristina studied Pharmacy at the Faculty of Pharmacy, University of Coimbra, Portugal. After graduating in 2004, she worked as a community pharmacist in Portugal and then started a PhD at the University of Sunderland under the supervision of Prof. F. Podczeck, Prof. De Sousa and Prof. Veiga. During her PhD she developed high amylose starch based film coatings for colon-specific drug delivery.

Cristina joined Reckitt & Benckiser as a Research Scientist working for the New Technologies Group and in April 2010, became post-doc research fellow with Professor Abdul Basit at the London School of Pharmacy researching the fundamental workings of the gastrointestinal tract with a particular focus in modulating the physiological parameters of the gut, by physiological and pharmaceutical means.

Cristina joined Kuecept in 2011 and is responsible for the development of the company's proprietary drug delivery technologies.


Professor Abdul Basit – Lead Scientific Advisor and Board Member

Professor Abdul Basit holds the position of Professor of Pharmaceutics at the UCL School of Pharmacy, University College London. He is also a Visiting Professor in the Faculty of Chemical and Pharmaceutical Sciences at the University of Chile. He further holds an Honorary Lectureship in Gastroenterology at the Wingate Institute of Neurogastroenterology, Queen Mary College, University of London. Professor Basit read Pharmacy at the University of Bath and graduated in 1993 with a first class honours degree. Following a pre-registration position with Pfizer, he undertook post-graduate studies in Pharmaceutics at the School of Pharmacy, University of London and was awarded his PhD in 1999. In recognition of his research achievements Professor Basit was the recipient of the 2004 Young Investigator Award in Pharmaceutics and Pharmaceutical Technology from the American Association of Pharmaceutical Scientists (AAPS). He is the first and only scientist based outside of North America to receive this award.
